What is a Green Ship?
  • Green ships are defined as:
    • Ships equipped with marine pollution reduction technology or ship energy efficiency improvement technology.
    • Ships powered by clean energy sources such as LNG and ammonia (NH₃).
    • Ships powered by electrical energy charged from an external power supply.
    • Hybrid vessels powered by a combination of conventional ship fuels and electric energy.
    • Vessels powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
    • Ships as defined by Article 2(3) of the Green Ship Act.

Green Ship and Marine Equipment Certification Procedure

The green ship certification procedure is divided into Pre-certification (design/building stage) and Certification (delivery stage). Pre-certification is required when receiving financial support from state and local governments for the purchase of green ships.
